Mayem Lake is one of those lakes in Goa that’s quite popular. Especially as a tourist picnic and boating spot in North Goa. The journey to reach Mayem lake is a must do as it passes through some of the thickest canopies in Goa.

 

The region around the lake is hilly, and the slopes are covered with forests and wild cashews. The lake itself boasts peddle boats that one can use to paddle around the expanse of the lake. Vendors can also be spotted selling tickets and snacks along this lake in Goa. The monsoons are a great time to explore Mayem lake as its pretty empty as its offseason.

If you’re into catching some fish in Goa then you simply can’t go wrong with Curtorim Lake. Curtorim is one of those lakes in Goa that has a tonne of freshwater fish as its disposal. Quite literally in fact.

 

Last year almost 150 kilos of fish were caught here during the summer season. If you’re looking for a fishing lake in Goa then you’ve found it. Just be sure not to come here for commercial fishing as you’d need a permit to do that. However, fishing on a small scale for your own consumption is totally okay.

If birdwatching is your thing. Then Carambolim Lake is for you. Lakes in Goa aren’t exactly too famous for their flying companions. But not Carambolim. This lake just can’t get enough of it.

The number of birds that fly here begins from 500 in September and reaches 10,000 by February. The lake is home to Pintail Ducks, Whistling Teals, Cattle Egrets and the list goes on. It is a famous bird watching lakes in Goa where you can see a lot of species of migratory birds as well as a lot of waterbirds.

Looking for an isolated lake to just chill out with nature? Then this lake in Goa is for you. Bondava lake is basically the reservoir created for Salaulim dam that provides water to the nearby locations for both irrigation and drinking purpose. However, it feels like a mini wildlife sanctuary.

 

There is a lush green cover all around where many birds and other animals live. Most lakes in Goa are pretty popular, but not Bondava. You can expect almost complete silence alongside the occasional chirping of birds.

Lakes in Goa # 1: Netravali Lake – The Bubble lake of Goa

Netravali lake is by far one of the most unique lakes in Goa. A lake that you HAVE to add to your bucket list if you haven’t already. Why? Bubbles of course. Hundreds of bubbles emerge to the surface of Netravali lake seemingly out of nowhere.

The various legends are there regarding the origin of these bubbles. According to some these bubbles are the miracle of the local deity. However, according to scientists, the bubbles can be caused by sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide, limestone or methane.

Like most lakes in Goa, Netravali also has another name. It’s called Budbudyanchi Tali which literally translates to bubble lake.
