Best Seafood Restaurants in Goa

Seafood has become an inseparable part of the Goan cuisine. You can find ‘n’ number of restaurants serving the staple food of Goa – Sheeth Kodi Nustey (Rice, Curry and Fish) along with other assortments as a full-fledged fish thali. It’s something that no one can get bored of! Apart from this, there are so many standalone dishes that contain the very essence of Goan flavours in them. A very few restaurants offer these traditional recipes the way they were originally made till today. If you love seafood and would like to go beyond the famous thalis, head down to these restaurants and give them a try.  

1. Martins Corner, Betalbatim

Martin’s corner may probably be the first name that you will hear anyone recommending for Seafood in South Goa. There is a very good chance that you might get to see some celebrities here. Established in 1989 as a corner shop with 3-4 tables, it has grown into a large restaurant that can serve to 300 people at once. Though it’s a multi-cuisine restaurant, its specialty lies in the seafood that it serves. The King Crab is a people’s favourite over there. Other than that, their squids and prawns masala fry, Shark Ambotik and King fish Balcao are also spot on.

2. Mums Kitchen, Panjim

Started by a Goan couple, this restaurant is a cozy place set up alongside the road connecting Panjim city and Miramar Beach. Bringing to your plate the long-forgotten recipes, Mums Kitchen has been exceptional in recreating the traditional recipes from both Hindu and Catholic households in Goa.  Some of their most unique dishes include Prawns Hooman and Crab Xec Xec. Even the Lobster Rechado, which is basically lobsters stuffed with tangy vinegar and spicy ground red Goan masala is something that is tough to find anywhere else. Many tourists also choose this place to try their one-of-kind vegetarian dishes.

3. Brittos, Baga

Brittos is one of the most popular and buzzing beach shacks where you can put your feet up and listen to the waves crashing. It specializes in anything fresh off the boat-crabs, prawns, fish, mussels, squid and more. Other than the sea food platter which is the major attraction in the menu, the kitchen here creates one of the best Vindaloos and Crab curry to perfection. The best way to end a meal at Brittos would be with their lip-smacking desserts like Alphonso Mango Mousse and Blueberry Cheesecake.

4. Fisherman’s Wharf, Cavelossim

As soon as you enter this place, the one obviously aesthetically pleasing bit is its sea-facing seating area. It’s an iconic marina style restaurant that gives a great view of the river Sal and the Cavelossim village from your table. The grilled fishes and lobster with Goan masalas accompanied with their signature margarita are to die for. Fantastic food along with the prompt and friendly service over here takes your fine-dine experience a notch higher. Though heavy on the pockets, the taste that it offers lingers longer in your mouth.

5. Souza Lobo, Calangute

A dining institution standing right on the Calangute beach since 1932, Souza Lobo is one of the oldest restaurants that Goa has seen. True to its motto “traditional recipes live here”, the restaurant has been managed by generations together ensuring that the legacy is carried forward. They also have live music in the evenings to keep the diners entertained. Over the years, one thing that has still not changed is the authentic taste of the food served here.

6. Ritz Classic, Panjim

Ritz Classic is a well-known name in the Panjim city for its elaborate fish thali. And because of this, most of them end up with no space to try the ones in the a la Carte menu. Not many know that they also serve one of the best Butter Garlic prawns, Squids masala fry, Crab dry fry, Fried Bombay duck and the list goes on and on. The menu is so extensive that it is tough to choose one. Owing to its location, this place is ever – crowded with both locals as well as tourists especially during the lunch time.

7. Zeebop, Utorda

Zeebop is known more a popular wedding destination set on the shores of Utorda beach in South Goa. It’s a beach shack with rustic décor and a serene ambience that lets you sit and chill with your friends and family over a hearty meal. Its open only during the months of high season i.e. September – May. Their menu has almost all types of seafood in it. Name your choice of fish and you shall have it the way you it to be cooked. Their batter-fried calamari, Stuffed Crabs and fish fingers are a must-try for every foodie.
